SHILLONG, Oct 6: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday rescued 16 cattle from along the international border in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, while they were about to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
The BSF also seized 3 vehicles in which these cattle were found crammed mercilessly.
To put an effective check on illegal transportation of cattle and other contraband items towards the border areas, BSF in Meghalaya has started laying mobile check posts (MCPs) at vintage points on vulnerable routes leading to the international border of East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, a statement from BSF said today.

Since MCPs have been successful in curbing the smuggling of cattle, drugs, narcotics and other contraband items to a great extent, the lobby of smugglers has been instigating people at some places to raise voices against BSF MCPs so that they can continue with their smuggling activities, the statement added.
