KOHIMA, May 15: Assam Rifles stated that security forces carried out an air evacuation of 96 stranded people from Phaisenjang, near the Indo-Myanmar Border in Chandel District, Manipur on May 15.
All 96 persons were rehabilitated at Assam Rifles Camp since the onset of clashes on May 4. Owing to the remoteness of Assam Rifles Camp & keeping the comfort of the locals supreme, air evacuation using Air Force MI-17 helicopters was considered inescapable. Security, medical, food, accommodation as also telecommunication needs for interaction with their kith and kin back home were met during the stay with Assam Rifles.
The innocent people of Manipur are suffering from the violence prevalent in the state due to clash between Kuki and Meitei communities. The fierceness of miscreants has lead to displacement of a lot people from their homes to other places and also the dearth of resources essential in daily routine.
The security forces along with Civil Administration are working day and night to bring normalcy in the lives of victims of current situation in Manipur. In continuation to extending unbiased support to the locals in terms of rescue, relief and security, Jwalamukhi Battalion and Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi Sector Assam Rifles under Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) on May 15 organised a Medical Camp at Kangpokpi and provided life saving aid to the victims of snake bite, deep burns, pneumonia and basic health care for other medical and surgical conditions and rescued 70 Meitei people safely from Maram to Imphal respectively. The efforts of Assam Rifles were well appreciated by the beneficiaries.
