GUWAHATI, May 18: The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) firmly reiterated its support for the Naga Students’ Federation’s directive to refuse cooperation with Indian armed and paramilitary forces as long as the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 is in operation in the Naga homeland.

Stating that the Indian armed forces have tormented peace loving Nagas for decades under the guise of the ‘draconian’ law, the ASU demanded that the government of India repeal the Act, and called on the “highest Court of the Republic India to immediately restore human rights of the Nagas by repealing the inhuman Act.”

The ASU also issued strict directives to its units and members.

“No individual/union under Angami jurisdiction shall accept any form of aids from the Indian Armed Forces,” it said.

Further, no individual or union shall be allowed to invite the Indian Armed Forces to any event organised in its jurisdiction, neither shall they partake in any official events of the Armed Forces, it asserted.

The ASU also cautioned all the Indian armed forces stationed in the Angami inhabited areas t, “abstain from provoking any situation in contravention to the directive.”

“Henceforth, the union will activate all its networks to ensure that no individual/group/armed forces violates the popular resolution of the Naga Students’ Federation and the Angami Students’ Union,” it said.
