Blast rocks venue of fashion show in Imphal

IMPHAL, Feb 5 (NNN): A fashion show in Imphal which Bollywood star Sunny Leone is scheduled to feature as show stopper was on Saturday cancelled after a bomb blast at the show venue in Imphal.

A bomb exploded at the venue of the fashion show at Hapta Kangjeibung under Porompat police station of Imphal East district early this morning, around 6.30 am, police said.

No casualty was reported in the blast as there was none at the site at the time of the blast except materials for erecting a platform for the event, the police further said.

Soon after the blast top officials of the Imphal East district police including the superintendent of police rushed to the spot and took the first hand report.

The police suspected a hand grenade was lobbed by militants.

A strong team of police commandos attached with Imphal East district police also conducted a cordon and search operation at the residential areas in the periphery of the Hapta Kangjeibung.

No suspect was picked up during the operation, the police said.

The fashion show to be hosted by House of Ali with Sunny Leone to participate as show stopper was scheduled on Sunday. The show was being organized with the objective to promote the handloom and khadi products of the state and tourism as well.

In the backdrop of the blast, the Imphal East district administration cancelled the permission granted to the House of Ali for organizing the show.

An order of the Imphal East DC cancelled the permission in view of the law and order after the blast.

“The permit issued to organize Fashion Parade event at the Hapta Kangjeibung from 2/2/2023 to 5/2/2023 vide this office order of even no. dated 2nd February, 2023 stands cancelled with immediate effect in view of the law and order incident which occurred today morning at Hapta Kangjeibung and as a step for maintenance of law and order in and around the area,” the order of the district administration signed by branch officer (Permit) Pinky Lukram stated.
