Strap: Slams Manipur government’s conditional permit
IMPHAL, Jan 13: Ten “likeminded political parties” in Manipur called on the people of the state to participate in the flagging off programme of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra while extending solidarity to the purpose of the yatra.
The bloc comprises AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI(M), JD(U), NCP, RSP, Congress and SS(UBT). Leaders of the bloc addressed a press conference in Imphal this afternoon.
They appealed to all sections of people to come out and join the rally for peace and unity while claiming that it is a proud movement for the people of the state that Rahul Gandhi decided to start the yatra from Manipur.
The leaders of the opposition parties also slammed the BJP-led government for the restricted permit that was granted to organize the flag-off programme in Imphal’s Hapta Kangjeibung.
CPI(M) Manipur State Council secretary, Kshetrimayum Santa who is also the convener of the bloc criticised the manner in which the state government granted the permission to use Hapta Kangjeibung as the programme venue.
He questioned the logic behind delay in granting the permission while alleging that it was intentionally done to hinder the preparation for the event.
“The conditional permit, that too granted after a delay, has infringed upon the democratic right to assemble and express dissent of the people of the state”, he said.
He highlighted the purpose of the yatra and said that the peace and unity call of the yatra is very much relevant with the prevailing situation in Manipur.
He said that the prevailing turmoil in the state where people are living in the state of anxiety, there is the urgent need for a collective effort to restore stability and normalcy.
He appealed to the people of the state to extend their support for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Attending the press conference, JDU Manipur unit senior spokesperson, Nimaichand Luwang stressed the significance of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra while asserting that the yatra has already attracted widespread attention from people across the country.
Rahul Gandhi’s decision to start the rally from Manipur will help in exposing the ground reality of what is happening in the state in the last eight months, he said. (NNN)
