TEZPUR, July 16: Tezpur University, in collaboration with the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan of the Government of Assam, recently organized a Science Teachers Training Programme for secondary level teachers from government and government provincialized schools. The aim of the program was to popularize science education and equip teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively teach science subjects.
The training program was conducted in two batches, with the first batch of teachers completing their training on July 9, and the second batch undergoing training from July 9 to 15, 2023. A total of 1200 teachers from seven districts, including Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Morigaon, Udalguri, and Darrang, participated in the program.
During the valedictory session of the training program, Paban Kumar Borthakur, chief secretary of the Government of Assam, highlighted the vital role played by teachers in shaping the minds of students. He emphasized the importance of continuous professional development and urged teachers to nurture an inquisitive mind. Borthakur expressed his belief that science learning can become interesting and simple with enthusiastic and well-trained teachers.
Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, delivered the presidential address. He emphasized the special significance of teaching science subjects in schools, as it lays the foundation for students’ future academic pursuits. Prof. Singh stressed the importance of students having a strong understanding of basic scientific concepts during their school years.
Dr. OM Prakash, Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha, Assam, provided an overview of the training program’s objectives and structure. The program focused on various subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Communicative English, and Education Pedagogy.
Overall, the Science Teachers Training Programme aimed to enhance the teaching skills and subject knowledge of secondary level teachers, with a particular emphasis on science education. The initiative sought to promote scientific learning and ensure that students receive quality education in science subjects.
