AGARTALA, Oct 23. The Tripura Civil Society on Thursday launched a 24-hour statewide bandh to press for an eight-point charter of demands, including the introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), speedy implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, and the identification and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
Protesters staged road blockades across Agartala and in more than 45 locations throughout the state, shouting slogans such as “Illegal Bangladeshi go back.”

The agitation brought several areas to a standstill as picketing continued through the day.
Tipra Motha Party MLA Ranjit Debbarma, who is leading the protest, accused the state government of inaction on the issue of illegal immigration.
“Our demand is clear — the Centre had directed all states to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi migrants, but the Tripura Government has done nothing. Assam, Haryana, and Delhi have taken action, but Tripura has not followed suit,” Debbarma said.
He also expressed frustration over the delay in implementing the Tiprasa Accord, signed over 18 months ago between the Centre, the Tripura Government, and tribal representatives.
“There has been no progress on the promises made for the welfare of indigenous people,” he added.
Debbarma further reiterated the long-standing demand for the Roman script for the Kokborok language, saying that despite raising the issue in the state assembly, there has been no response from the government.
The civil society has also demanded the introduction of the Inner Line Permit system in Tripura and strict action against individuals using fake Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe certificates.
According to the organization, the bandh will continue until their demands receive concrete attention from both the state and central governments.
