Clothing worth Rs 22 lakh seized in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Jan 30 (NNN): The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized clothing items (sarees) worth Rs 22 lakh from along the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.

The clothing items were meant for smuggling to Bangladesh, according to the BSF.

The vehicle loaded with the consignment was intercepted by troops of 4 Bn BSF in the vicinity of Pyrdiwah village.

When BSF signalled the vehicle to stop, the driver fled towards the forest area leaving the vehicle in the middle of the road, the BSF alleged. The security force handed over seized items and vehicles to the Customs for further action.

Meanwhile, according to the BSF, in 2022 it had seized clothing items worth more than Rs 1.2 crore along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
