Cross firing continues on fifth day in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 2:  A gunfight between armed groups erupted
in Imphal West district-Kangpokpi district border even as the
cross firing at some places along the Bishnupur-
Churachandpur border entered fifth day on Saturday.
Reports said that armed miscreants launched a heavy attack
at Singda and Kadangban villages of Imphal West district
bordering Kangpokpi district early this morning.
Reports said firing amid shelling of bombs and mortar from
the hill side started around 4.30 am and village volunteers
guarding the villages returned the firing. The heavy exchange
of fire that ensued was continuing till this late evening even
as security forces intervened to repel the warring groups.
There were no reports of casualty on the village volunteers
guarding the two villages. However, local sources feared
some casualties on the hillside.
The gunfights in the periphery of Bishnupur bordering with
Churachandpur entered five days today. (NNN)
