ITANAGAR, March 1: The residents of Jyotipur-I and Jyotipur-II villages under Diyun Circle in Changlang district have urged the administration to provide compensation for damages before proceeding with the 132 KV power line project and before the execution of the earth works in the residential areas.
A statement received from the locality said that on Friday, a team led by extra-assistant commissioner (EAC) A Modi visited the site to carry out project-related activities, which met with opposition from the affected families and local residents. The residents claimed that compensation should be provided before any further work takes place or any damaged caused to the local property including the agriculture and horticulture plants and fields.
As per statements One Suhas Chakma, founder of the Chakma Development Foundation of India (CDFI), had earlier lodged a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), alleging eviction without compensation.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Students’ Union extended support to the affected families, appealing to the administration to address their grievances.
The affected families have warned of seeking legal action if their demands are not met.
