Imphal, Aug 29: Four persons including a farmer were injured as fresh cross firing erupted in the hill-valley periphery of strife-torn Manipur on Tuesday.
Reports said that a farmer working in his paddy field was injured when armed miscreants who came down from the hill side at Naranseina in Bishnupur district opened fire in the morning around 6 am.
The injured farmer has been identified as Salam Jotin (40) of Naranseina. He was hit by a bullet on his chest. He was shifted to the Raj Medicity in Imphal, after being provided with first aid care at Bishnupur district hospital.
According to sources the miscreants allegedly opened fired using a sniper gun injuring the farmer, who had been spraying pesticide in his field.
Three more persons were injured when a gunfight broke out between the armed miscreants and village volunteers guarding the village as the latter rushed to the area where the firing occurred.
Later, a column of security forces rushed to the spot and repelled the armed miscreants after a heavy exchange of fire.
The three injured persons were also shifted to Raj Medicity hospital in Imphal, sources said.
Meanwhile, womenfolk of Naranseina and its adjoining areas protested against central security forces deployed in the area for not taking initiative to prevent the armed miscreants from attacking the farmers working in their paddy fields.
They alleged that the central security forces deployed at the ‘buffer zone’ area remained silent spectators even as the armed miscreants from the hill side launched the attack by crossing the ‘buffer zone’. (NNN)
