SHILLONG, Aug 9: Meghalaya chief minister, Conrad K Sangma has stated on Monday that Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital has over the years overcome the challenges with an objective of serving mankind with dedication.
Sangma made this observation when he inaugurated the College of Nursing at Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital, Shillong in the presence of minister of Education Lakhmen Rymbui.
“From a humble beginning of School of Nursing with just two students to the College of Nursing as it stands today, the hospital, its staff and faculty have overcome the challenges and it is heartening to note that the College of Nursing is being inaugurated in the 50th Year of the Statehood,” he said. He also added that it is important for the hospital and the College of Nursing to lay visions for producing empathetic, dedicated and faithful nurses. “With the backing, guidance and support of the Presbyterian church this college will produce nurses who will not only save lives but also make a difference in people’s lives,” he added.
The chief minister also said that it is important that institutes like these come up in the State to be able to channelise the energies of the youth in the right direction to make them productive citizens. “We have a huge youth population and there is a huge opportunity for our youth in the next few years to be employed in various sectors in countries like Japan and Thailand where the population is aging,” he informed. He added that institutes like the Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital College of Nursing will provide the platform but also urged the college and the hospital to ensure that the standards of professionals are at the international level.
