Imphal, May 5: A severe hailstorm, accompanied by heavy rain, hit Manipur on Sunday afternoon, causing widespread damage across the state.
The intense storm, which lasted for around 15 minutes, resulted in significant destruction in the Imphal valley, with numerous homes damaged and trees uprooted. The sudden downpour led to extreme waterlogging on numerous roads in Imphal city.
An uprooted tree fell on an auto rickshaw, causing it partial damage. In an unfortunate incident, several birds were found dead on the streets due to the impact of the hailstorm.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, in response, issued an urgent assistance alert and initiated helpline numbers in various districts. He expressed his concern on platform ‘X’, stating, ‘In the wake of the recent hailstorm impacting several areas across Manipur, our priority is ensuring swift assistance for those in need.’
