IMPHAL, Nov 8 (NNN): A prisoner who escaped from a hospital in Imphal where he was brought for medical treatment was arrested shortly after he escaped on Tuesday.
The prisoner was identified as N. Gandharaj (23) of Bishnupur district. He has been in Manipur Central Jail, Shajiwa, after being arrested by the police in connection with a vehicle lifting case.
Police said that he was saved by the security personnel of the jail while he was attempting to commit suicide inside the jail on Tuesday morning and brought up to JNIMS hospital, Imphal for medical treatment.
He, however, escaped from the hospital taking advantage of the crowd, around 10:30 am.
Soon after he escaped, jail security personnel along with teams of Imphal East district police cordoned off the entire surrounding of the JNIMS hospital campus and launched a search operation.
During the search, he was found hiding on top of a tree near the office of the Imphal East SP office which is located adjacent to the JNIMS hospital, the police also said.
