DIPHU, June 30: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has allotted 18,000 bighas of land to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for setting up of a mega solar power plant.
The solar power plant will be the second after Bhadla Solar Park in Thar district, Rajasthan in the country.

The KAAC authority said that the land has been allotted to the APDCL to save the border land from encroachers. The KAAC will receive an annual 10 percent revenue from it.
Speaking about the land allotment in a press conference held at KAAC Secretariat conference hall here on Friday, the Executive Member Land Revenue & Land Reforms etc., Amarsing Tisso said a total land area of 18,000 bighas has been allotted to the APDCL for setting up of a mega solar power land.
Tisso said, “We have held a proper discussion with the villagers of the adjoining villages of the solar power plant site of any doubts and objections and after the villagers agreeing on it, the 18,000 bighas land has been allotted to APDCL. The land is in Lahorijan, Choto Lengrijan, Bor Lengrijan, Long Kathar, Nahorjan and Karagaon area under Borjan mouza close to Assam-Nagaland inter-state border. The KAAC will receive annual revenue of 10 percent i.e. Rs 300 to 400 crore. ”
The EM also said, “The solar power plant site is occupied by encroachers. There are encroachers occupying 200 bighas, 300 bighas and 500 bighas. By allotting the land to the APDCL it will be protected from encroaching more land. It will be the second solar power plant after Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan in the country. The Central government will invest 80 percent, while the State government will invest 20 percent in the project.”
The EM also said that those land that fall under the solar power plant and the land owner will be compensated and relocate them to another area. Local youths will be absorbed in the solar power plant for jobs. The APDCL has started initial works on it.
