IMPHAL, Feb 11: In a significant step towards improving air connectivity in Manipur, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday flagged off the commencement of direct SpiceJet airline services from Imphal to Guwahati, Kolkata and Mumbai at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, underscoring its pivotal role in achieving Viksit Manipur. He observed that during the current difficult times, air travel has become the preferred mode of transport for people travelling outside the State. He also directed the airline company to review the airfares to ensure affordability for passengers.
As part of the launching programme, the Chief Minister handed over the boarding pass to the first passenger of the SpiceJet service to Guwahati.
The event was attended by Lok Sabha MP Dr Bimol Akoijam, MLA of Thanga Assembly Constituency Tongbram Robindro Singh, MLA of Chingai Constituency Khashim Vashum, Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Bajpai, Director of Transport Khumanthem Diana, Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, Ksh Shivakanta Singh, officials of the Airports Authority of India and other dignitaries.
On the sidelines of the programme, the Chief Minister led attendees in candle lighting, ribbon cutting and cake cutting ceremonies to mark the launch of the new flight services. (NNN)
