IMPHAL, April 24 (NNN): Teachers of primary schools under the Manipur government on Sunday threatened to launch “democratic forms of agitation” while alleging that they are yet to get the revised pay structures recommended by the 7th Pay Commission.

Primary teachers under the Education (School) department are yet to enjoy the revised ROP Revised of Pay) 2019 even though the same has been paid to employees of other departments under the Manipur government.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, advisor of United Primary Teachers’ Association (UPTA), Manipur Angom Babuchand Meetei said that primary teachers are being neglected by the government. He alleged that even as they are pressing the concerned authorities for the pay revision, except assurances the same is yet to be implemented into work.

The primary teachers are enjoying the pre-revised pay structures which are not suited with time. They have been facing hardship to run families with the old pay structures as prices of essential commodities have been hiked manifolds, according to Babuchand.

Mention may be made here that after a series of strikes by the employees, the Manipur government had revised the pays of the state government with effect from April 2019.

As per an agreement with employees’ bodies, the state government agreed to deposit the benefits of the ROP to the General Provident Fund accounts for the period between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020 and benefits with revised allowances from April 1, 2020.
