IMPHAL, June 22 (NNN): Manipur Muslim Welfare Organization (MMWO) on Thursday said the body took seriously the “victimisation of Meitei Pangal (Meitei Muslims)” in the ongoing ethnic conflict between two communities while strongly condemning the injuring of three civilians including a minor boy after a high intensity IED exploded at Kwakta village late on Wednesday.
Mention may be made that two teenagers and one minor boy were grievously injured when the high intensity bomb exploded that destroyed a RCC bridge on the Moirang River in Bishnupur district last night, around 7.10 pm.
Addressing a press conference at its office at Hatta Golapati in Imphal today, MMWO advisor Abdullah Phundreimayum said that the blast incident that injured three persons was not the first time in which Meitei Pangals were victimized in the ongoing conflict.
On May 15 also, a youth of Kwakta village sustained critical injuries after he was caught in the firing by armed miscreants, he said.
He asked how the miscreants were able to detonate the high intensity IED at a place where there is a large number of security.
Such an instant of triggering a bomb at the high security area needs to be investigated. If such incidents continue to occur, then there is no meaning of deploying security forces in the state, the Muslim leader added.
He said whether the blast was triggered with a hidden agenda so that all communities living in the state are involved in the conflict so that a civil war is created in the state.
Abdullah then said that since the very initial stage of the eruption of the present violence, the Meitei Pangals are maintaining neutrality and extending assistance to the victims of the ethnic violence.
Meanwhile, the Meitei Pangal community carried out torch rallies across the community dominated areas of the state on Wednesday night, calling for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state and also protection of the territorial integrity of Manipur.
The rallies were organized under the aegis of the All Manipur Muslim Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC).
Earlier, while announcing the organization of the torch rally, AMMOCOC had stated that the community has been standing firm on the protection of the integrity of Manipur.
