SHILLONG, May 20 (NNN): The Meghalaya government has decided to do away with the Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 in order to follow the central law pertaining to street vending.
This was informed by the state to the Meghalaya High Court on Wednesday during a hearing on the petition filed by the Meghalaya & Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers & Street Vendors Association (MGSPHSVA).
“The State proposes to do away with the state enactment and follow the Central statute pertaining to street-vending,” the court said in its order.
It was also informed that the matter is before the cabinet for its consideration for an appropriate ordinance to be issued in accordance with the law.
The state further informed the Court that upon the state law being repealed, a set of rules in accordance with the Central statute may be brought into effect immediately.
In view of such submission, the court has decided to hear the matter on July 1.
