SHILLONG, June 5: Talking to the media persons here on Wednesday Meghalaya Health & Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh assured that the state machinery is well-prepared to combat not only Covid-19 but also any other emerging health threats.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “Just last weekend, we had an online discussion with the Union Health Minister, and we assured the Government of India that Meghalaya is prepared.”

“We will respond only as and when the situation arises,” she added.

Urging the citizens not to panic, Lyngdoh emphasized that the current Covid-19 scenario is far less severe than the 2019–2020 outbreak. “The Covid we remember from 2019–20 was a situation that stormed all nations, countries, and states, but today, Covid is something that can be managed by health systems across the country.”

She advised citizens to remain vigilant and follow protocols if symptoms appear. “Do not create unnecessary panic. If any citizen is experiencing Covid-like symptoms, isolate yourself, take timely medication, and follow all Covid protocols. If we do this, the state machinery will be able to handle the situation effectively,” she said.

The minister further noted that whether or not testing is conducted, people today are well-acquainted with Covid protocols.

“If you have doubts and your symptoms don’t subside within a few days say, 72 hours or more you know what to do. We don’t need to unnecessarily alert the system, and I don’t believe we should create panic among citizens,” she said.

“We are aware and alert. But if panic spreads in the community, it could lead to further issues. As I said, the state is ready,” Lyngdoh stated. (NNN)
