Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles seize heroin, explosives in Champhai district

CHAMPHAI (Mizoram), March 18: In a joint operation, the Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles successfully intercepted a significant cache of illegal substances, including heroin, gelatin sticks, and detonators, in Champhai district of Mizoram.

“A total of 198 soap cases containing 2.393 kilograms of heroin, with an estimated market value of INR 71,79,000, were seized from two individuals identified as B Liansanga (45), a driver from Lunglei Chanmari, and R Malsawmthara (35), a handler from Tuipui Village in Champhai district,” ANI quoted Mizoram Police as saying.

The contraband was being transported from Myanmar to Zokhawthar when it was intercepted by authorities. The vehicle involved in the smuggling operation was driven and owned by B Liansanga.

A formal complaint has been registered at the Zokhawthar Police Station regarding the incident.

In addition to the heroin haul, law enforcement officials also confiscated 110 gelatin sticks weighing 14.084 kilograms and 110 detonators from a couple identified as Biakrema (29) and Ramthazuali (28) of Tiau Khawmawi village, Chin state, Myanmar.

The successful interception of these illegal substances highlights the ongoing efforts of the Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles in combating drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region.
