Mobile Internet Services Resume In Manipur, Two Days After Suspension

IMPHAL, Aug 9: Mobile internet services have resumed in Manipur, two days after they were snapped in the wake of tension in the state.
The ban on mobile internet and mass messaging services, imposed on August 7, was lifted in the afternoon on Tuesday in view of the positive development in the law-and-order situation, an order of the special secretary (Home) H Gyan Prakash of the State Government said.
Manipur Government had suspended mobile internet services across the state for five days in view of tension following torching of a vehicle in Bishnupur district bordering Churachandpur district on August 6 evening amid the economic blockade imposed by All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM).
The suspension of mobile data service came into effect on Saturday midnight. The order directed mobile internet service providers across the state for the next five days citing the prevailing communal tension and volatile law and order situation in the state.
The ban was lifted on Tuesday following a letter of the state DGP informing that in view of the positive development in the law-and-order situation, suspension of internet/mobile data service in the territorial jurisdiction of the state of Manipur may be relaxed from Tuesday.
Following the report, the order directed the mobile data service providers to restore the services with immediate effect.
Consequently, the mobile data services resumed in the state. (NNN)
