IMPHAL, April 20: Lok Sabha MP from Manipur, Akoijam Bimol said on Sunday that there is still “deep unrest simmering” in Manipur.

Speaking to reporters today at his residence in Imphal, Bimol accused the Centre of ignoring both the “humanitarian crisis and the ecological collapse” unfolding in the state.

Bimol criticised the manner the Central government has been responding to the ongoing violence and displacement in Manipur, warning that its “selective disarmament operations” risk fueling mistrust among communities.

He said there is a “partisan nature of the crackdown on armed groups”.

He expressed outrage that none of Manipur’s three MPs were allowed to speak during the tabling of President’s Rule, describing it as an affront to democratic representation.

Additionally, Bimol recalled an incident which he described “unfortunate” where his question regarding Suspension of Operation (SoO) groups which was already balloted was not tabled in the Parliament citing it as “security reason.”

The MP also lashed out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for “framing the conflict” as a mere societal problem, arguing that the government’s failure to protect lives and liberties exposes a deeper institutional failure. (NNN)
