Kohima, May 21: Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the fatal beating of Kezhalelie Lawrence Miasalhou, a political assistant to the deputy commissioner of Kohima district, in an apparent road rage incident. The victim, in his late 50s, was attacked on Saturday and succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning after being transported to a private hospital.
The suspects, Neizosetuo Kire (24) and Khrietsonyü Whuorie (25), were apprehended on Sunday. They have been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 352 (assault or use of criminal force), and 302 (murder). A case has been registered at the North police station.
The incident has prompted significant public outcry. The Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO) led a protest rally in the state capital, demanding that the accused not be granted bail under any circumstances. They warned that anyone attempting to secure bail for the suspects would be held responsible for any ensuing consequences.
The violent act has been widely condemned by various civil society organizations, youth groups, and village councils across the region, all of whom have united in denouncing the incident.
