“I am appalled and disturbed by the repeated instances of racial discrimination against people from Northeast India,” Patton said in a statement, asking “when will we learn to see each other as Indians first”.

Strongly condemning the racial discrimination and alleged assault against two Northeast residents near the Saket district court complex in New Delhi on March 8, he said such acts of prejudice and bias are not only hurtful but also go against the values of unity and inclusivity that our country stands for.

He said it is disheartening to see individuals being judged or mistreated based on their appearance, ethnicity, or place of origin.

“Let us come together to promote understanding, empathy and respect for all cultures and communities,” Patton urged.

He stressed that every Indian deserves to be treated with dignity, regardless of their background.

“We must celebrate our diversity and recognise the strength it brings to our nation and promote inclusivity,” he stated.

Patton urged everyone to stand against racism and promote inclusivity in all aspects of life.

“Let’s build a society where everyone feels valued, respected and safe,” he said, adding racism and violence are completely unacceptable and deserve strict legal consequences.
