DIMAPUR, March 7: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has made a strong appeal to the Nagaland police to take immediate and decisive steps against Reny Wilfred, the former joint secretary of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), against whom serious allegations of crimes against women have been brought forth.

In a letter to the Nagaland DGP on Saturday, the federation urged him to ensure that the accused is booked without further delay and that the case proceeds with urgency and seriousness befitting the gravity of the allegations.

It cautioned that any attempt by individuals or entities to shield, influence, or interfere with the course of the investigation will be viewed with utmost seriousness and will invite strong public opposition.

Expressing grave concern over the alleged continued delay in the initiation of decisive law enforcement action against the IAS officer, the NSF said he currently stands accused in multiple cases involving serious allegations of sexual harassment against women.

“It is a matter of deep anguish that despite the emergence of multiple victims who have courageously spoken out about their experiences, the law enforcement agencies are yet to take firm and visible steps to ensure that the accused is booked and brought to justice without further delay,” it stated.

The federation noted with concern that although a strong chargesheet has reportedly been filed against the accused, there appears to be little progress in translating these legal findings into tangible action.

It alleged that Wilfred had been accused by several female employees working under his authority as IDAN joint secretary over serious allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct during his tenure in the department. While acknowledging that the accused has been placed under suspension, the NSF, however, expressed dismay that there has been no clear movement toward disciplinary proceedings or the expeditious advancement of the criminal process.
