DIMAPUR, June 24: The postal ballot voting for government employees engaged in duty for the urban local body (ULB) elections in Nagaland was conducted at various voting centres across the state on Monday.
The ULB polls in the state are scheduled to take place on June 26 after a gap of 20 years. For the first time in the history of Nagaland, the elections this year will be held with 33 per cent reservation of seats for women.

In Dimapur, altogether 59 voters availed the postal ballot voting services for the Dimapur Municipal Council and five voters for the East Dimapur Town Council at the commissioner of taxes office.
The process was overseen by nodal officer for postal ballots, Imtijungla Lemtur.
The postal ballot voting process was completed in the presence of authorised representatives of different candidates, who observed the procedure from the start.
A total of 64 candidates from different municipal and town council have been elected uncontested in the state, while 253 candidates are in the fray. There are three municipal councils and 36 town councils in the state.
Meanwhile, state labour commissioner, as empowered under Section 10 (2), 11(3) of the Nagaland Shop and Establishment Act, 1986, and under Section 80(1) of the Factories Act, 1948, declared June 26 as a paid holiday for all the workers engaged in commercial and industrial establishments in the state to facilitate them to exercise of their franchise.
“Hence all the employers and occupiers of the commercial and industrial establishments in the state are directed to pay wages at a rate equal to the daily average of his/her total full-time earnings for the day for which paid leave is declared. No deduction, whatsoever, shall be made from the wage of any workers falling under the specified category,” the labour commissioner said in an order.
