DIMAPUR, Jan 21: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted various aspects of the state, ranging from history, struggles, economy, social issues and the special provisions enshrined in the Constitution, to a visiting media team from Gujarat at the chief minister’s residential complex in Kohima on Wednesday.
Interacting with the media delegation, Rio elaborated about the issue of investors not coming in and the lack of factories and industries in Nagaland, as the state is safeguarded by constitutional provisions in Article 371(A) of the Constitution, which states that the state’s land and its resources belong to the people
“The outsiders are not allowed to own land in Nagaland except on a lease-out basis for a certain period of years for any investment or establishment in Nagaland,” he said.
“Our natural resources cannot be exploited due to the special status given in the Constitution, but our human resources can be fully utilised,” he asserted.
Rio pointed out that with the advent of Christianity and education, the Naga youth are talented and well educated today, working not only in India but also abroad on a large scale.
He also spoke about the JICA project being sponsored by the government of Japan and the good relationship the state had with the Japanese people in recent years.
The tour programme is being organised by the Press Information Bureau. Altogether, 15 media persons from different media houses and two PIB officials from Gujarat are on a four-day visit to Nagaland from January 19 to know about the various development activities taking place in the state and its rich cultural heritage.
