SHILLONG, Nov 28: Prof B V Sharma, director general, Raja
Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF) recently visited
State Central Library, Shillong, who was welcomed by Alma
Ryangsai, Assistant Librarian.
RRRLF, an organisation under the Union Ministry of culture, has
been serving for upliftment and betterment of public libraries
throughout the country. Almost each of the public libraries
under the department of art and culture, government of
Meghalaya has been supported by RRRLF through their various
matching and non-matching schemes.
Prof Sharma said, “We are organising a Capacity Building
Training Programme from November 28 to December 2, for
Public Library Professionals in collaboration with North Eastern
Hill University, where library professionals from Assam,
Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura will be trained in
respect of modern ICT technologies for libraries, library
automation etc. and we have sanctioned this library as a Model
Library under National Mission on Libraries (NML)”.
Dipanjan Chatterjee, project officer, NML, who is also in
Shillong to organise the training programme said, “We are
organising such training programmes throughout the country in
collaboration with various universities and state governments.
Till now 37 programmes have been conducted and more than
1400 professionals were trained. (NNN)
