Gangtok, Feb 21: Over 500 tourists were stranded at East Sikkim’s Nathu La pass due to sudden heavy snowfall on Wednesday, as per the Indian Army.
The TriShakti Corps is providing medical assistance and emergency supplies to the stranded tourists. The unexpected snowfall trapped around 175 vehicles.
The army personnel swiftly attended to the tourists stranded in the sub-zero temperatures at Nathu La, an official statement revealed. The statement also mentioned that along with medical aid and hot refreshments, safe transportation was arranged to aid the tourists in reaching safety.
The statement highlighted that the TriShakti Corps, while safeguarding Sikkim’s borders, is always ready to assist civil administration and citizens.
It’s worth noting that there have been no reports of casualties or injuries so far, however, some tourists required medical attention due to the high altitude and frigid temperatures.
