The Bridge no 196 is an important bridge. It was the most critical and the only bridge left out to be completed out of total 144 number bridges which has been constructed as a part of the Bairabi – Sairang new railway line project. This marks a significant milestone in enhancing railway connectivity to the Northeastern region of India.

Bridge No 196 is being constructed over the Tlawng River at Ch 48856.64 in the block section Mualkhang – Sairang, approaching the Sairang yard. The bridge consisted of a total of five piers, with the tallest pier (P/4) reaching a height of 103.40 meters. The overall length of the bridge is 377.98 meters. Due to the challenging topography of the terrain, the bridge features a unique arrangement of spans, with a particularly steep valley towards the Sairang end.

During the inspection, Arun Kumar Chaudhary was accompanied by senior railway officials involved in the project. He reviewed the progress of ongoing construction activities and engaged with the technical workforce, acknowledging their dedication and contribution to this critical infrastructure initiative. As a part of the visit, the General Manager dined with the technical workers of the bridge, recognizing their relentless efforts in overcoming engineering challenges to bring this project closer to completion. The launch of Bridge No. 196 underscores the commitment of the Indian Railways towards bridging geographical barriers and fostering economic and social development in the region.

The 51.38 km long Bairabi – Sairang new railway line project connecting Aizawl in Mizoram with the rest of the country is set to transform connectivity in Mizoram, with 95% of construction completed. This new line project is divided into four sections, i.e. Bairabi – Hortoki, Hortoki – Kawnpui, Kawnpui – Mualkhang and Mualkhang – Sairang. The project is a vital initiative aimed at integrating the Northeastern states with the national railway network, improving transportation efficiency, and boosting regional trade and tourism.
