New Delhi, March 30: Deepak Sharma, an executive committee member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and owner of Khad FC, was arrested by Goa police on Saturday following allegations of assaulting women football players.
Sharma is accused of physically assaulting two female players from his club, Khad FC, a participant in the Indian Women’s League. The alleged incident occurred on March 28 when Sharma reportedly forced his way into the players’ room.
The arrest was made after a formal complaint was filed against him. Deputy superintendent of police (Mapusa), Sandesh Chodankar, confirmed that Sharma was arrested under multiple charges, including causing hurt and using force against women.
Sharma, who also serves as the secretary-general of the Himachal Pradesh Football Association, is to remain in custody overnight and will be presented in court on Sunday, March 31.
GFA President Caetano Fernandes stated that the association aided the victims in filing the complaint at the Mapusa police station.
