SIVASAGAR, Feb 8: New Star Guwahati secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 2nd All Assam Griffon Challenge Women’s Cricket Championship in Sivasagar by defeating Goalpara Eleven in a one-sided match on Thursday. The Guwahati team, propelled by two half-centuries from Hiramoni Saikia (64 off 32) and Ruhina Pegu (58 off 26), posted a formidable total of 231 runs in 20 overs, losing only one wicket.
In response, the Goalpara team managed to score only 61/6 in the stipulated 20 overs. Ruhina Pegu, who not only contributed with the bat but also took a wicket, was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Punaram Mili, President of Sivasagar Sports Association, was introduced to the players at the beginning of the match.
On Friday, the first semi-final will take place between Nazira and Golaghat, while Guwahati will clash with Jorhat in the second semi-final.
