Surat, Feb 21: SunRisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abhishek Sharma is embroiled in controversy, having been summoned by local police in connection with the suicide of a popular Surat-based model, Tania Singh.
Singh, who had been working in fashion design and modelling for the past 18 months, was found hanging in her apartment in Surat’s Vesu area. Police suspect a romantic involvement in this tragic case.
Sharma, who has played for SunRisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), was reportedly a long-time friend of Singh. His phone number was found in Singh’s call records, leading to his summons for questioning.
Sharma, a promising player in Indian cricket, had a strong 2022 season but performed less well in 2023. This incident could negatively impact his upcoming IPL season, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards player involvement in criminal matters.
The incident could also hinder Sharma’s aspirations to join the national squad, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
