Late Jhagaru Gour Memorial Football Tournament Concludes

Tezpur, Sept 5: The first annual football tournament in memory of freedom fighter Late Jhagaru Gour which got underway in Sonitpur on August 9, 2022 at Monujuli Gupsor ground at Dhekiajuli – Sonitpur district on the occasion of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples concluded on Sunday.

Altogether 16 leading football teams took part in the tournament which was organised under the aegis of Adhunik India Foundation, a non-Governmental organisation. The final match of the tournament was held between Hugrajuli Tea Estate and Manmohinipur Tea Estate with Hugrajuli Tea Estate emerging as champions after defeating Manmohinipur Tea Estate for 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out.

ITBP Commandant Dr. Deepak Kumar Pandey presented the trophy and a cheque of Rs 20,000 to the winning team, while additional DC, Sonitpur, Raj Boruah handed over the trophy and a cheque worth Rs 14,001 to the runners-up. Deputy superintendent of police, Sonitpur, Luit Talukdar awarded the Gold medals to the winning team and president of Adhunik India Foundation DK Chouhan distributed the Silver medals among the members of the runners-up team.

Commandant, SSB, Umesh Thapaliyal, deputy commandant (Staff), SSB, Dr. Ajit Hemrom and several distinguished guests were also present on the occasion.

A traditional welcome was accorded to all the guests and dignitaries present at the prize distribution ceremony of the final match.

The tournament which was held in the Manojuli area of Dhekiajuli is expected to go a long way in promoting sports and providing a platform for upcoming sports talents, and also attracting the younger generation towards the field.
