National Sports Day celebrated

DIPHU, Aug 30: National Sports Day was celebrated by Gauhati University National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit on August 29 at the University campus. National Sports Day marked the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhayan Chand and it is celebrated on August 29 every year.
Inaugurating the programme Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director of Students’ Welfare, Gauhati University said that Sports are an integral part of life. Sports activities are fun to play and improve our health and physical fitness. Dr Kakati appealed to the student community and NSS volunteers to make a daily physical exercise routine and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Many indoor and outdoor sports events were organised among the students to celebrate the day. Dr Rituparna Bora, NSS PO, GU campus was also present in the program. Certificates and prizes were distributed to the winners.
