Mumbai, Jan 25: Virat Kohli, the seasoned Indian batter, was honoured as the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023 on Thursday, a testament to his exceptional performance in the 50-overs format this year.
Kohli emerged as the star player in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, finishing as the top scorer with 765 runs at an impressive average of 95.62. Despite India’s heartbreaking loss in the finals, Kohli’s contributions were instrumental in the team’s journey.

Over the year, Kohli played 27 ODIs, amassing 1,377 runs, taking a wicket, and demonstrating superior fielding with 12 catches. After a dry spell, Kohli made a strong comeback in 2022, setting the stage for a remarkable 2023.
He scored a half-century in nine of his 11 World Cup innings and broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the highest individual score in a Men’s Cricket World Cup.
He scored three centuries in the tournament, one of which was against New Zealand in the semi-final. Furthermore, Kohli surpassed Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries, making him the leading century-scorer in ODI history. His total runs for the year stand at 1,377, with an average of 72.47, including six centuries and eight half-centuries in 24 innings.
