Washington DC, Feb 24: Google has confirmed that its Google Pay app will cease to be available in the United States from June 4, 2024. The tech giant is consolidating its payment options by moving all features to the Google Wallet platform.
Google Wallet, a primary platform for customers, enables the secure storage of payment cards for use at businesses, along with various digital items such as transit cards, driver’s licenses and state IDs. From June 4, 2024, the standalone Google Pay app will not be accessible in the U.S., as per the company blog post.
However, the Google Pay app will remain operational in other countries including Singapore and India. The company assured that the app will continue to function for users in these countries, with no changes anticipated.
The blog post further clarified that popular features like tap-to-pay and managing payment methods will be accessible via Google Wallet. A key issue for U.S. customers during this transition will be the inability to send, receive or request payments via the Google Pay app. Google recommends users switch to Google Wallet, which provides tap-to-pay, tickets, passes, and virtual debit/credit cards.
Google Pay will still allow users to check account balances and transfer funds to their bank accounts. Additionally, users can use Google Search to find deals and offers, a feature that will no longer be available on Google Pay.
