IMPHAL, July 4 (NNN): Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh has announced the demolition of all illegally constructed bunkers in both the hills and valley areas. The army, along with paramilitary forces, will lead the operation to dismantle these structures, said the chief minister during a media briefing at the chief minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
Following a combined headquarters meeting, concrete steps have been decided upon, including the establishment of buffer zones by the people of both communities. The chief minister emphasised that private bunkers will not be permitted to be set up in any location.
To ensure the smooth progress of agricultural activities during the monsoon season, around 2,000 security personnel, including Manipur Rifles and IRB, have been deployed to areas adjacent to the hill regions where farming is underway. These security personnel will safeguard and protect farmers from any disruptions caused by armed miscreants. The chief minister also mentioned the earlier deployment of central forces in these areas.

Additionally, security force posts will be set up on hilltops to better monitor the prevailing situation, and drone surveys will be conducted around the clock. A central monitoring headquarters will oversee the situation and provide reinforcement if required.
Addressing the presence of individuals carrying illegal arms in both hill and valley areas, the chief minister announced the commencement of mass frisking operations. He urged the public to voluntarily return any snatched arms and ammunition before facing legal consequences, emphasising that the law-and-order situation is gradually improving.
Regarding the reopening of schools, the chief minister stated that classes for grades 1 to 8 will resume on July 5, 2023. Classes for grades 9 to 12 will begin once the construction of prefabricated houses is completed and displaced people sheltered in relief camps are relocated.
The chief minister also shared the toll-free number ‘18003090931’ for people to report grievances and request relief assistance.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to maintaining the people’s trust, N Biren Singh assured that no actions would undermine the integrity and administrative system of the state. The government’s focus remains on the welfare and interests of the people. The chief minister expressed appreciation for the role played by civil society organizations and women in bringing peace and harmony to the state. He also commended the decision to lift the blockade on National Highway No 2 and appealed to the public for further cooperation in the government’s efforts to restore peace and tranquility, with the vision of creating a better state for future generations.
