Assam: Woman Killed, Two Others Injured In Branch Fall In Jorhat

JORHAT, May 3: One woman was killed and two others critically injured when the branch of a peepal tree near Ambedkar Park behind the Jorhat Court at Baruah Chariali here fell on them on Tuesday evening.

The woman has been identified as Pinky Robidas (35) wife of Debeswar Robidas of Horuchorai tea estate under Pulibor police station in the district.

The two injured have been identified as Babu Payeng (18) of Majuli and Mihir Hazam of Numaligarh tea estate.

According to the account of an eyewitness, the branch, which was rotten, suddenly broke and fell on the three.

Pinky was accompanied by her husband and the two were reportedly crossing the road to board an auto rickshaw when the branch fell on her. She is reported to have died on the spot.

The two injured were rushed to hospital where they are being treated.

There was no storm when the incident occurred.

The huge branch which was blocking the road was cut and cleared by the police and Forest department personnel.
