BOKAJAN, May 7: All Bokajan Ex-Militant Cadre Union (ABEMCU) held its first meeting after it was formed on March 30, 2022. ABEMCU is an organisation of six ex-armed militant organisations.
The ABEMCU held its maiden meeting at Hanjanglangso PWD IB under Bokajan Sub Division with president of ABEMCU Andrew Rongpi stressing the need to assimilate with the society.
It may be mentioned that six armed organisations of Karbi Anglong have signed a peace accord with the Government of India and Assam in which they laid down their arms in exchange for development, facilities and withdrawal of cases.
Attending as the chief guest, the joint secretary of Karbi Anglong Sports Association, Babu Engti appreciated the former militants’ for their effort to work for the society.
Engti said, “One you have taken up arms for a cause and signed an accord with the Government which has fulfilled several of the demands. The Government of Assam has allotted funds for the development of Karbi Anglong, so now we should work with the Government to be established in the society. I assure you all cooperation that I can give in the process.”
The others dignitaries also spoke on the same line.
President of Karbi Students and Youth Council (KSYC), Phungbong Timung, former Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers cadres, Mensing Tokbi, Angthik Singnar and Sanjit Rongphar were also present in the meeting.
