GUWAHATI, Aug 27: A momentous event unfolded in Guwahati as the Svyadhaya Foundation released two significant spiritual books, ‘Gita Bhavartha’ and ‘Namghosha’, authored by Hemanta Bijoy Mahanta, a former commissioner of Income Tax. The ceremony took place at the NEDFi Auditorium, Guwahati, on Sunday.
Mitali Goswami Trochin, secretary of the foundation, warmly welcomed the esteemed gathering, shedding light on the foundation’s mission to preserve, protect, and develop the cultural heritage of the region.
Mahanta’s literary contributions delve into the philosophical depths of the Shrimad Bhagawad Gita and Shri Shri Madhavdeva’s Namghosha. These books are poised to significantly enrich the spiritual journey of the Assamese society. Known for his devout reverence for Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva and Madhavadeva, Mahanta’s writings are rooted in profound devotion.
Hiro Prasad Mahanta, sattradhikar of Baghor Gayan Sattra, Koliabor, a distinguished guru of Sattriya Sanskriti, delivered the inaugural address. He emphasised the importance of well-researched books like these in advancing the spiritual growth of Assamese society.
The book ‘Namghosha’ was launched by Padmashree Dr Surya Kanta Hazarika, president of Asam Sahitya Sabha. This book intricately details the 1000 verses composed by Madhavadeva in his monumental work ‘The Namghosha’. Dr Hazarika, renowned for his research on the Neo-Vaishnavite movement in Assam, shared insights into the preservation of original scriptures and its significance for Assamese society.
Dr Pradip Jyoti Mahanta, a distinguished academic and professor at Royal Global University, discussed the concept of bhakti (devotion) and its profound presence in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Movement in India. Drawing parallels to the Namghosha of Madhavadeva, he highlighted its enduring impact on the Indian mind.
Mayur Bora, a notable thinker and motivational speaker, shed light on the significance of Namghosa in the daily lives of Assamese people and emphasised the foundation laid by Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva and Madhavadeva for Assamese society.
The participants and speakers hailed the release of ‘Gita Bhavartha’ and ‘Namghosha’ as a pivotal milestone, offering Assamese society two essential spiritual resources.
