DIPHU, May 10: The president of Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) and former chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Jotson Bey asked the members of Karbi Students Association (KSA) to stand firm in times of crisis and continue to work for the welfare of the student community.
Speaking in the open session of the 8th biennial conference of Karbi Students Association (KSA) of Jameson Timung faction of Diphu District Committee (DDC) at Diphu Club on Tuesday, the ASDC president said, “Even in times of crisis you should stand firm. People do not want to be in the regional party (ASDC) as the party is not in power. But even then the party is still strong and stands for the real cause of the people.”

Urging the KSA members to be in the regional party, the former CEM said, “You have to be in the regional party and not in any national party if you want to work on real issues. Being in a national party you cannot take your own decision; you have to follow the dictates of the high command. The ASDC has also tested working with the national party – the CPI (ML), during the Autonomous State movement period, but due to differences of ideas and principles the ASDC could not take it for long and split.”
Taking his own experience Bey said, “During ASDC-CPI (ML), I was the CEM, but I could not hold the post for long as I opposed the CPI (ML). Because I rejected the CPI (ML), I resigned from the CEM post.”
Referring to the current state affairs of the KAAC, Bey said, “The elected members and the officials together are entangled with immoral affairs with women. Jobs are sold for money. The executive members and members of Autonomous Council (MACs) are taking lakhs of rupees from candidates to give them appointments. But during the ASDC regime as I was also the CEM, we have not taken money from anyone for appointments.”
Bey also crticised the existence of numerous social organisations in Diphu and said, “According to information from law-and-order authority there are 140 social organisations. Some of the organisations in the name of seeking information through RTI they go for their own self benefit and purchase luxury cars.”
Bey asked the KSA to carry on with their student activities and at the same time support the regional party.
President, KSA, DDC, Bishnuram Phangcho said in today’s conference a resolution for carrying out anti-drug and anti-social activities in Diphu, as it is seen that many of the school and college going children and youths are consuming pan malasa and tobacco (jarda) like Gutkha, Shekhar, etc. The KSA wants to put a stop to it as it spoiled the upcoming generation.
The KSA also demanded 100 per cent admission to only ST candidates in the now to be set-up Veterinary College at Manja; Agriculture college at Kolonga and Model Degree College in Umapanai as mentioned in the MoS of 2021, the foundation which was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit at Loringthepi, Karbi Anglong on April 28 and to provide basic amenities in Mijung area of Lumbajong.
Phangcho also said that the new executive committee of DDC could not be formed and will be done in the first Executive Committee meeting to be held soon.
Earlier, a delegate meeting was held, where delegates from various KSA branches under DDC participated.
President, Convening Committee for Unification (CCU), Robindro Rongpi and chairman, Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State Khorsing Teron also spoke in the meeting.
