DIPHU, April 1: General secretary of Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) and former chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Jotson Bey said Jayanta Rongpi, a former MP has destroyed the ASDC as a CPI (ML) worker.
Bey has been fielded as the ASDC MP candidate from 6– Diphu (ST) parliamentary constituency in the ensuing second phase of parliamentary elections in the state, voting for which is scheduled to take place on April 26.
The ASDC, Karbi Students Association (KSA) and Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) jointly commemorated the 29th anniversary of MoU signing with the central government on April 1, 1995.
Addressing party workers and supporters during the celebrations held at Bura Tisso village, Inglongkiri Model Village, Bey said, “Deserters like Jayanta Rongpi, who as a member of CPI (ML) joined in the autonomous state movement launched by ASDC and destroyed the party. He and other selfish leaders made money to enrich themselves. It is not the fault of ASDC, but those deserters, who have ruined the ASDC.”
The ASDC general secretary said, “When I was the CEM I did not allow outsiders to settle in Karbi Anglong. Our government opposed the setting up of Tiger Reverse in Kaziranga National Park.”
Bey said he is in the ASDC for the movement on autonomous state for 50 years now.
He also said that after the signing of MoU the power to appoint LP and High school teachers was with KAAC. Even the principal of the Diphu Government College was appointed by KAAC at that time. However, in the subsequent 15 years of Congress rule in KAAC, it has surrendered its powers to the state government. These people are now in the BJP.
Bey said the ASDC is doing what BJP MP and MLAs could not do. The ASDC has opposed the implementation of CAA and UCC in the sixth schedule districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong and the government has agreed to it. The Congress and All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) are not opposed to UCC and CAA.
On the accusation that ASDC is contesting the Lok Sabha election to help BJP win the election, the general secretary said that if it was for helping BJP win, then the ASDC would not have placed its candidate.
On not being able to place a consensus opposition candidate Bey clarified it was the APHLC and Congress that had not agreed to it.
The celebrations were attended by ASDC vice president, Dhoniram Tisso, member, ASDC central committee, Bidyasing Kro and president of ASDC Lumbajong Constituent Committee, Ramsing Bey, KNCA president, Maikon Rongpharpi and ASDC Youth Front president, Premson Bey.
