DC sets deadline for disbursement of bonus to tea workers

NAGAON, Oct 4: A special meeting to review the issue of
payment of bonus to tea garden workers for the year 2022-23
was held at the conference hall of DC, Nagaon on Wednesday.
The meeting was chaired by Narendra Kumar Shah, district
commissioner. During the meeting, additional district
commissioner Lakshyajyoti Das highlighted the primary agenda
of the meeting which is to discuss the matters related to the
timely payment of bonus to tea garden workers under Nagaon
district in view of the upcoming Durga Puja.
The assistant labour commissioner Naresh Das apprised the
members of the meeting regarding the technical issues related
to bonus payment as per norms and asked the representatives
of tea garden management to work things out with the
respective workers as well as labour unions and reach an
amicable settlement regarding bonus percentage and
disbursement.
The district commissioner enquired each representative of the
tea gardens under Nagaon district to give a brief of their
current status and action plan regarding bonus payment. The
district administration directed the tea garden management to
disburse bonus latest by October 10, 2023 and added that tea

gardens managed under Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL)
will follow the government directives.
The district commissioner also wished everyone present for the
upcoming festival season and hoped for a peaceful celebration
of the same. He additionally asked the tea garden management
to disburse the bonus money preferable in a planned and
phased manner to avoid any untoward rush and incident.
Additional superintendent of police Pranab Jyoti Kalita urged
the tea garden management to inform the concerned law
enforcement authority well ahead of time regarding their
decided date of collection, transit and disbursement of bonus
and to preferably disburse the money before sunset.
Sub-divisional police officer Rup Jyoti Dutta, circle officers of
Sadar, Samaguri, Kaliabor, Kampur and Raha revenue circles,
District information and public relations officer of Nagaon,
managers and management representatives of tea gardens
under Nagaon the district, members of Assam Chah Mazdoor
Sangha and other associations and organisations of tea garden
along with other concerned stakeholders and officials of the
labour department were present in the meeting, a press note
stated here.
