Union minister Rameswar Teli addresses 3rd convocation of AEI in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, Dec 1: The 3rd convocation of the Assam Energy Institute (AEI) at Polasani, Sivasagar, witnessed the presence of Union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas, labour & empowerment, Rameswar Teli.

Serving as the chief guest, minister Teli congratulated the students on their achievements and presented diplomas during the event.

Minister Teli urged the graduating students to be self-confident as they enter the competitive technical world. Highlighting the government’s significant investment in technical education, he emphasised that every student bears the responsibility to contribute back to the state through their work. Encouraging the students not to limit their dreams, he urged them to contribute to the greatness of the country through their expertise. Minister Teli assured support from the Ministry to make AEI a world-class institution.

Speaking about innovative initiatives, minister Teli mentioned the extraction of oil from bamboo, which is abundant in Assam. He shared that NRL, Numaligarh, is producing petroleum mixed with ethanol (20%) from its bio-refinery as a result of intense research.

Minister Teli emphasised the shift in the employment landscape, stating that appointments under the Modi government are now given based on merit, eliminating the need for individuals to visit political representatives for job opportunities.

Prof ASK Sinha, director of RGIPTI, provided a brief overview of Assam Energy Institute, an affiliated unit of RGIPT in UP. AEI awarded diplomas to 172 students for the academic session 2022-23 in various disciplines such as Chemical Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation, Fire and Safety, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering.

The institute has seen improvements in its ranks among technical institutions in the country within just two years. Prof Sinha mentioned plans to upgrade AEI to a degree college and the inclusion of extra-curricular programs in line with the National Education Policy to enhance students’ skills and competence.

During the convocation, Gaurov Dutta in Chemical Engineering received the President’s Medal, and Akangsha Hazarika in Petroleum Engineering was awarded the Director’s Gold Medal for her outstanding all-round performance.

Other dignitaries present at the event included Aditya Vikram Yadav, DC, Sivasagar, Subhrajyoti Bora, SP Sivasagar, Dr Chanchal Kundu, Dean, Academic Affairs, RGIPT, Jitendra Prasad, Registrar, RGIPT, and Prof Chnmoijit Sarmah, In-Charge, AEI, Sivasagar.
