MORIGAON, Dec 5:Â In a significant operation led by additional district commissioner Pranjal Barua, the district administration seized a large quantity of paddy and rice from the Kunkuni Paddy Mill in Dalbari. The raid, prompted by allegations of paddy mills in the district purchasing crops from farmers at prices below the government-set minimum support price, resulted in the confiscation of 2828 quintals of paddy and 1191 quintals of rice.
The rice mill was accused of sourcing paddy from farmers at rates lower than the government-fixed minimum support price of Rs 2,183 and then selling the rice at higher prices. The mill was also found to be in violation of government guidelines, including the failure to regularly inform the Supply Department about the source of paddy and rice in stock, as well as details of purchases and sales.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday, included the seizure of two trucks loaded with rice from the premises of the rice mill. The team conducting the raid was led by district agriculture officer Ashok Sharma and additional director (Supply Department) Matinur Rahman. The rice mill has faced allegations of irregularities on multiple occasions, and this operation aimed to curb illegal practices in the procurement and sale of paddy and rice in the region.
