Chairman of ADC arrested; drugs, money seized

IMPHAL, June 20 (Newmai): The Chairman of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Chandel district was arrested by the personnel of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) for possessing drugs.

According to the NAB, ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou, 51 years, along with seven others were arrested last night from various places in Imphal and seized a huge quantity of banned drugs and money. The seized currency and the seized drugs are worth in total to the tune of over Rs 28 crores.

According to the NAB, following a tip-off, one Mrs Esther Vungchinuam (22) and one Mung Zou (19) were arrested from Mantripukhri, north Imphal. Following the interrogation of the two, one Mrs Teresa Ngaite (54) and Thangminlun Zou (30) were arrested and seized a huge quantity of World is Yours (WY) tablets from their possession. Over Rs 2 lakh was also seized from the latter incident.

On further interrogation, a raid was conducted at the quarter of the ADC Chairman jointly by the police and the NAB. Drugs, money, arms and ammunition were found in the quarter. Later, some associates of the ADC Chairman were also arrested by the police and the NAB personnel.

The total quantity of drugs seized from the possessions of the 8 arrested persons have been estimated by the NAB as over 4 kg of Heroin worth over Rs 13 crores, 2, 80, 200 WY tablets weighing 28 kg which are worth over Rs 14 crores. The NAB also said that the total amount of currency seized is little more than Rs 57 lakh.

The 8 arrested persons are now in the custody of the police.
