Assam: Two more detained in connection to Jorhat Grenade Blast Case

Jorhat, Jan 8: In connection with the grenade blast at the Lichubari Military Camp in Jorhat district on December 14, 2023, Jorhat Police arrested two more individuals on Sunday. The detainees, Rajpal Gogoi and Biplab Baruah, hail from Demow in Sivasagar district.

Jorhat Superintendent of Police, Mohan Lal Meena, reported that the arrests were made during the investigation of the grenade lobbing incident. A case was registered following the incident and two suspects, Achyut Gogoi and Biraj Kachari, were arrested on December 28.

An unidentified person had transferred Rs 5,000 into Biraj’s bank account, which was traced back to Rajpal Gogoi. Biplab Baruah was also arrested in the process.

After interrogation, Baruah confessed to transporting two grenades with Gogoi and leaving them near the Teok, Jorhat, electrical sub-station as per ULFA-I leader Aiseng Asom’s instructions.

The grenades were later retrieved and thrown at the military camp by Achyut Gogoi and Biraj Kachari. Baruah also admitted to delivering another grenade in Sivasagar, which is currently under investigation by the Sivasagar police. The source of the grenades in Assam still remains unknown, as per SP Mohan Lal Meena.
