GUWAHATI, Jan 16: State Transport minister Parimal Suklabaidya visited Haflong, Dima Hasao, to actively participate in the ‘Path Suraksha’ Jan Andolan’ program, a dedicated initiative promoting road safety. Over his two-day visit, various events were organised to raise awareness about the importance of road safety.
On January 13, minister Suklabaidya was warmly welcomed at Manderdisa, Dima Hasao, where he led a spectacular bike rally to Haflong. The rally, joined by enforcement staff, MVI, Excise, Fishery Department, and police officials, aimed to educate the public on road safety, emphasising the leading causes of accidents and promoting safety compliance. Dima Hasao district commissioner, Dima Hasao SP Mayank Kr Jha, and DTO Arun Bora joined the minister at Jatinga, a few kilometers from Haflong town.
The following day, DTO Dima Hasao organised a road safety awareness program at DRA Construction Company, focusing on workers, drivers, and handymen in collaboration with Haflong traffic police. DTO Arun Bora and Haflong Police traffic in-charge stressed the importance of road safety, urging compliance with traffic rules to reduce accidents and fatalities. Participants expressed their gratitude for the informative program.
Minister Parimal Suklabaidya bid farewell at Bandrakahl, Dima Hasao, accompanied by a bike rally highlighting the significance of road safety en route to Cachar.
In addition, Suklabaidya actively participated in a cleanliness drive at Ramakrishna Mission, Haflong, as part of the Ayodhya Ram Temple ‘Pran Pratishtha’ on January 22, 2024.
The ‘Path Suraksha Jan Andolan’ is a statewide road safety awareness campaign launched in Assam on November 19, 2023. Minister Suklabaidya inaugurated the campaign and participated in a statewide awareness bike rally. The initiative aligns with the chief minister’s call to make road safety awareness a mass movement. Expressing concern over the high number of road fatalities in the state, Suklabaidya stated that 85% of these accidents could have been prevented through adherence to safety rules. Between January and October 2023, Assam recorded 6001 road accidents, resulting in 2606 fatalities.
